What Counts as Self Bondage?
I find that I often put on a pair of handcuffs or leg irons and take them off again in a few minutes. With handcuffs I may actually keep them both wrists and securely locked for less than a minute. While I enjoy the feeling of being securely restrained, I also don't like to just sit there not doing anything and handcuffs make it very difficult to do most things.
Does this even count as self bondage?

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
As many people have said over the years, "it's not bondage until you want out." For me, there has to be SOME element of "I can't get loose the moment I want to."
If I'm sitting at my desk, handcuffed, with the keys right in front of me, that doesn't feel like bondage. If the keys are in another room, hidden outdoors, wrapped in tape, frozen in ice, or locked up elsewhere, THAT feels more like self-bondage to me!
If there's another person involved, even from another location, that feels even LESS like self-bondage and more like "they're actually in control," even if I do have limited access to the keys in case of emergency.

There are times, Like Now, That I put on my handcuffs, and sit in front
of the computer and type away. Now the keys are on the desk, but I am
restrained. To reach for something, I must use both hands. Most of the time,
I use the single finger to type, because the limited distance between my wrists
from wearing hand cuffs.
It is just something I like to do.

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
Hello RAE,
I do the same thing but usually don't last long with handcuffs in front of the computer. Usually it is with handcuffs that are unusual in some way, most likely antiques or collectables of some kind. Maybe if you got a set of long chain handcuffs, you might do better typing. I know I last longer if the jewelry I am wearing has a longer chain. Sometimes I can wear them around and do things for several hours. They don't prevent any activities but just remain on as a reminder.

I also sometime use my computer while in bondage, I wear a crotch harness consisting of a waist belt and a belt from the front down through my crotch, either side of my balls and buckling at the waist belt at the back. Both belts pass through a ring at the front of my waist. I wear wrist cuffs which are locked on, these can be either clipped or padlocked to the ring on the harness providing limited movement. I can just about type but it involves some squirming around and reaching the top of the keyboard gives great sensations as it tugs on the harness. If I'm locked into this then the keys could be on a timer or somewhere around the house where it's more of an effort to go and get them than it is to keep typing.
It's great fun.
It's great fun.
Happily married (but always ready to flirt) wife not into anything kinky so it's self bondage when I can.
Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
I like to use Leg Cuffs a lot.
They can ratchet down to the size of my wrists,
And with 12" chain, you have some movement.
I some times wear them to type, or do some
light house work.

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
I concur with stephanie_cd. Many self-bondage experiments start out with myself in some restrictive outfit but free to roam my house. Once I'm dependent on a release mechanism (padded cell door timer or something else) that's when the real bondage starts. Usually I eventually get to the "I want out but I can't" phase as well...

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
I've had a nice SB session a good while ago where I had my legs were crossed and my arms behind my back in a harness, and I enjoyed the floaty feeling of restriction for quite a while. Was it inescapable? No, but I just enjoyed the sensationss.
Conversely, I could say about that time I had my legs tied together, my arms lashed to wrists, unable to reach the gag in my mouth or the weighted nipple clamps that were inching me along the room as I waited for an ice timer to fall.
I guess, for me, self bondage doesn't have to be "super hardcore" all the time, sometimes its enough to let the mind wander.
Enjoy and be safe!

New adventures.
Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
For me self bondage is any form of confinement or bondage that I have placed myself in and can't escape until some external event occurs. That event can be an ice timer, magnetic lock on a timer, or an email from a buddy with the combination to my key safe.I like long term bondage, so it tends to be not too uncomfortable. I enjoy the feeling of knowing I am locked for many hours with no escape. I find it very relaxing. I love to daydream, so that is how I entertain myself while waiting. An example is to use a pair of handcuffs to lock one wrist to an anchor point for 2 to ? hours. If I am using an ice timer I may lock on a hood so I can't see a clock or the progress of the melting ice.

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
Hi Buck,
That is really the question:
Is it self bondage when the release is readily available or is it a requirement that the self bondager not be able to escape at will?
Some of us think that wearing chains or cuffs even when nothing prevents us from removing them does count. If it does not, then I never really ever do self bondage but it is still an interesting feeling no matter what it is called.

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
its not bondage till you want out and cant get out.that is why i lock up my keys for periods that seem to be getting longer and longer over the years.
Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
Very good Stahlketten. We all have different ideas about bondage, and that is good. I used to do bondage as you describe. I still sometimes just put on a pair of handcuffs to work around the house or to sleep at night. The key is right there on the table. However, over time my desires have slowly changed. Part of it is I am now retired and have more time available for bondage. Thus the longer sessions. As I have gotten older some bondage positions have become very difficult or painful. A tight hogtie is one example. The muscles and joints just don't cooperate as they used to. I just like being tied up. How I get there or what it is called is not all that important.
Enjoy the bondage and don't worry about the definitions.

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
Self bondage is any bondage one places themselves in, period. Saying "its not bondage till you want out and cant get out" is false. That's just how you enjoy your self bondage, but please don't construct qualifications on how others should enjoy their self bondage

Look up the word irony and try to understand it's meaning Then see howtiemeupalso wrote:@devious.the OP asked for my opinion.i gave it.

ironic this post of yours quoted here is in regard to my post!
While I did quote you, it's not you alone that has the sentiment somehow that
"inescapable" self bondage is superior to lesser degrees of inescapability others
may use during times of self binding. There are even posts in this very thread
demonstrating just that.
My point was, if myself and others repeatedly claimed "It's not bondage at all
until someone besides yourself has to let you out" you see how that diminishes
other peoples opinion?
That's all I was trying to say.
"I am not helpless, I'm simply restrained at the moment!"
Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
bondage is being tied up and difficulty in moving around, rather than being restrained with cuffs, that's what I think, and not being able to release one's self immediately after achieving your goal, my desire is to feel the caress of rope all over my body and I'm very reluctant at times to release myself, so is that self bondage or a desire to be restrained.

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
I think that "bondage" doesn't have to have a restricting meaning ; I think that even merely wearing handcuffs is enough, if you feel some restriction in your movements : that's why I enjoy havinh my hands handcuffed behind back, because in front, I don't feel restrained.
However, I think that's it's important, especially when you're alone, to be able to free yourself quickly, for safety reasons, and I feel that's it's what makes restraints like handcuffs great, because as long as you wear them, you're securely restrained, but the key allows quick and safe release.
I also think that relative restraint can allow you to do other stuff while in restraints, thus, allowing you more easily to enjoy the bondage much longer.
PS : like, for example, typing that post

Re: What Counts as Self Bondage?
Running with nipples clamped (under clothes), in daylight, did a very strong bondage feeling to me:
- I was running free (all my limbs were free)
- I could stop my predicament anytime
- No "shame factor" in wearing them (hidden) or taking them off (in public WC).
I kept them past previous limits and felt more "stuck in bondage" than with ropes.
From my (limited) experience and viewpoint, if You put a thumbtack on Your chair and sit on it, You're in self-bondage until You sit up!

thumb tack theory, but what if you can't get up, you can experience more from yourself, pain (love this, but not too much), panic(I love this one as well). the fear that leads to panic, and the inability to do anything about you situation, endurance (that's a killer), boredom and the twilight dreams. but more to the point is sitting down in the first place knowing what lies ahead.
