Body molding

Unread post by twosidedcoin »

I once saw a tv program in which they made a custom seat for a formula one driver with some beads that set Up like epoxy. They we're put in a plastic bag and the guy sat there for a few minutes until it hardened. What are these beads and wouldn't it be cool to made a bed sized plate that was molded to the exact shape of my body? If it came up a little over 1/2 way of my height laying down, I could be made quite immobile with a few straps around the knees and elbows.

I saw something once where polystyrene beads were in an airtight bag which when air was sucked out moulded perfectly to the shape of a person http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/special-prog ... t_fnal.pdf <- :geek: the science bit.
It might be interesting to expand on this idea and experiment with sheets of plastic thin enough to deform when subjected to a vacuum yet large enough to take on the size of a person. Maybe double skin would be needed or a efficient clearable filter to stop the beads blocking the vacuum.
