RE: Forum Posting Guidelines

Unread post by pleasewrap »

In order to provide a fun and welcoming forum for all to enjoy, we have come up with a set of rules and guidelines for posting on this forum.  These rules must be obeyed at all times to avoid disciplinary action which may result in, but not limited to, thread(s)  locked, post(s) deleted, and/or membership(s) suspended/banned.If you have questions on this policy, we encourage you to let us know. This is a forum to discuss BDSM and fantasies and is strictly intended to follow a "safe, sane, and consensual" theme.  While there is some latitude provided, the moderators and site owner are not interested in facilitating activities that are illegal, dangerous, or damaging to a person.   Posts that include overtly illegal acts (such as kidnapping), acts judged to be excessively dangerous (such as suspension by the neck), and damaging (such as permanent bondage or  causing lasting injury) will be removed and may result in disciplinary action.  Requests to engage in non-consensual activities (such as kidnapping a partner) will receive similar treatment.  These decisions remain strictly within the discretion of the moderating team and are not subject to review.Members are expected to post on topic when replying to any post, and should attempt to advance the discussion of the topic.  Posts that are "Nope, haven't heard of that," or "Wow, that sounds cool" may occasionally be appropriate, but often create a type of "clutter" that can irritate other members.Members are expected to demonstrate respect for each other and avoid "flames" or personal attacks.  This is not to say that we cannot disagree with each other or that exchanges cannot become somewhat heated as a part of the discussion.  However, posts that include name calling, derogatory statements, or other personal attacks will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action. We're here to have fun and enjoy so if you can't say it nicely...Members will respect other members' desires for privacy, limitations on contact between members, and topics for discussion.  Members who harass, annoy, or ignore the wishes of other members should expect to be banned.  Note that this may be extended to Instant Messaging, e-mail, or other forms of communication outside of the messaging functions of this forum if the information provided here has been used to facilitate such activities.  If you're making someone else uncomfortable and a moderator asks you to stop, we think it's serious and that it needs to be addressed.Members are expected to handle their posts as though they were at a party with people they know and those they never met before in the same room.  While the topics we discuss may be odd for a party, the idea that this is a social forum should be present in everyone's mind.  We didn't come here to be judged, degraded, or laughed at (with - yes, at - no).Members should feel free to try to handle any issues they encounter between themselves, however they will keep in mind that these posting guidelines extend to private messages or other communications related to this forum.  If you can't or don't wish to resolve a problem with another member directly, contact one of the moderators and explain the issue as rationally and calmly as possible.  Please also understand that it may take time for the moderators to respond, and that the moderators may not resolve the issue in the same manner that you recommend or prefer. The moderators' say is final.  In most cases, we will discuss the issue and reach a consensus.  There are certain instances however that require immediate action.  No matter the situation, once a decision is made it will not be reversed without a moderator consensus.  Flames in public forums on the topic will not be tolerated, however you are permitted to petition the moderator staff privately (PM) in a professional manner. If you are found to break these or any other posted rules, we'll contact you directly.  Depending on the problem, disciplinary action may be taken.  We don't want to do any of the above, but our goal is to keep this a pleasant place for everyone to visit.Members should under no circumstances post copyrighted materials without permission at any time.  This includes, but not limited to, images, text, videos or audio.  Members will also refrain from encouraging this type illigeal activity in any public area.  This includes posts requesting the exchange or forwarding of material protected under copyright in any manner.  Members will not use this forum or any of its resources in an effort to obtain copyrighted material in a way that is not expressly authorized by the copyright holder.  Instructions for linking to images can be found here.  Please note that linking to copyrighted images displayed in a manner that does not make it clear that they are not under the control of the copyright holder is also forbidden.  This includes posting content that would otherwise not be permitted to Imageshack, Picasa, MegaUpload, or similar sites and then linking here.We respect the fact that some members join with the intent of informing members about their commercial web sites and activities.  If you want to advertise with great frequency, Google, Yahoo!, and other companies have services for you.  This is not an advertising service or site and we expect such members to:Only one account actively promoting a given site or sites is permitted.  Multiple accounts that post links or "shill" to keep a topic on the list of topics with new posts will result in suspension of all such accounts.Create a single thread in the "Links and Site Reviews" forum that will contain all advertisements/updates for their site.Only provide links to such sites within the appropriate context of replies to other threads.Limit advertisements/updates to a reasonable frequency.  The latter will be determined by the judgment of the moderators and the feedback of forum members.  However, exceeding one such addition/update per week should generally be considered to be unacceptable under anything but extraordinary circumstances.Signatures may contain links to commercial sites, but should be tasteful and limited to one or two such sites. The moderators decisions on this matter are final and are not subject to review or challenge. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable place to come and exchange ideas on the topics we share interests in.  Stick within the confines of these rules, and we'll all have a good time.pleasewrap2011-08-18 09:06:03

Anything that you photograph, write, draw, or otherwise create is automatically copyrighted - by you.  At least, under US law, that's the case.  If you choose to post photos of you or by you, post stories you have written, or in any way something that is unquestionably yours, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.  Now if someone were to decide to post pictures you had shared only with them for some reason, then you would have the right to ask that they be removed. Our goal is not to prevent anyone from posting materials that they have a right to post.  It is simply to make it clear that this is not a forum for exchanging things that are under someone else's copyright without their permission.  That can get us shut down, and we aren't about to condone that.

Uh oh, it may be a coincidence but since this topic was posted, I've noticed a couple of members known for short posts (but I didn't think empty or cluttered ones) have suddenly vanished. I hope they weren't scared away.

Actually, you're referring to a different thread.  Since that particular post, there's been a decline in some of the activities that are mentioned in this particular thread (which covers a much wider range of topics), but I'm unaware of anyone that has ceased posting or visiting the site completely. We (the moderators) thought it best to spell out how we'd like folks to act so that if an issue arose it didn't appear to be resolved in an arbitrary or capricious manner.  It's important to keep in mind that we're not looking to become the "forum Nazis," just trying to spell out what expectations are so that issues can be handled in a consistent manner. It's also important to note - this was not driven by any single behavior or activity.  There have been a number of topics on the list that have arisen recently that led to its publication.  If you feel singled out by this post for any reason, don't.  We weren't targetting any individual or group - we wanted good general guidelines for everyone.

Please note the update in bold above.  This is not a change in our policies, just a clarification so there's no doubt about it.

Over the last few months, we've seen an increase in activities from folks that are primarily here to advertise rather than participate.  This has generated a mix of complaints, flames, post in the wrong place, and other activities that we just don't need.  After some discussion, the moderators have agreed that our somewhat informal posting policies on ads needed more clarity. Please note the addition of item #9 above.  This is not intended to be a blanket "no advertising" ban, nor do we expect that this will impact the vast majority of our existing members.  Nor is this a blanket ban on advertising, since an occasional post for a commercial site is absolutely not a problem.  But we need to have some controls. Our goal is to do one of two things - keep members participating beyond the advertising (which some already do) or reduce the frequency of advertising posts and formally describe how we'll be moderating things. This thread will be locked once again in a few days to allow some discussion if any is required. Thanks in advance for everyone's cooperation and understanding.

Seems odd to be updating these so quickly, but after some discussion among ourselves, the moderators have decided that we need to make a policy we've been enforcing more formal.  Please note that we've put a new #1 in place:"This is a forum to discuss BDSM and fantasies and is strictly intended to follow a "safe, sane, and consensual" theme. These decisions remain strictly within the discretion of the moderating team and are not subject to review."We've had some posts and pictures appear of late that you may or may not have seen (because the moderators pulled them from view) that were, frankly, inappropriately dangerous.  And while we do provide some latitude about posts, ultimately we're probably the ones that get hauled in to court with GU if some attorney "gets frisky" about posts here. This doesn't mean that everything immediately comes down.  The overwhelming majority of posts here don't come close to a problem.  But in the past we've had posts about kidnapping, asphyxiation, permanent bondage, etc. that have risen to a level that simply isn't acceptable.Again, this thread will remain unlocked for some discussion if desired.  Or you can PM a Mod with questions.

Can we conclude that the posting of a "story" is somewhat different than typical member "posts"? I simply want to understand this clearly as I myself sometimes post in the "consensual nonconsent" realm. My two examples:/forum_posts.asp?TID=12370/forum_posts.asp?TID=12995&KW=PID=119630#119630There was also the whole "j.r.'s" thing/thread but I've learned NOT to engage someone like that again!d3vious_g3nius2011-08-18 20:48:09

Stories and obvious pieces of fiction get a very wide berth, although we have occasionally removed some of them as well.  We're more concerned with fantasy coming dangerously close to reality, and occasionally crossing over.  And we've had our share of those lately.

What you have is fine, it's the pictures and spammy links that we want to avoid. Sorry it took a while to get answered.

Are there rules or conventions for posting stories on multiple sites? For example, I have some bondage & crossdressing stories, both true and fiction, on Deviant Art. Would it be OK to post the same stories here? Thank you.
