I noticed that this site needs an ssl certificate to make it more secure.
Not sure who to bring this up with, but I will say this:
Most hosting companies will have a cheap SSL option, and some will even let you do a self-signed certificate for free.
I wont get technical here, but it's a good thing to have on a site, trust me. - helps with security and SEO and you get the https:// prefix that people trust
The nice thing is that you get a "locked padlock" logo in the corner of the browser when you have SSL... A locked padlock, how on theme is that?
Usually you could get it set up for like 10 or 20 bucks (per/year i think).
I am offering it here now, I will donate to this forum the 20 bucks if you set up SSL
wouldn't want this site to have security problems. I've had websites taken down before by hackers... it's a pain and you could lose data if you dont have backups... anyways. Not sure where to post this, but yeah.
SSL for this site?

I agree. Almost all modern sites/forums have some sort of SSL/TLS encryption.

The security certificates you're talking about have nothing to do with how secure a site is against malicious activity, all they do is encrypt the traffic between the site and your browser, (and as part of that, make it more difficult for somebody malicious to impersonate the site)
This only matters if you're transmitting information that you don't want anybody to be able to access, like bank details, passwords and personal information.
Assuming that you're not stupid enough to use the same username and password for more than one site, it really doesn't matter if a site that this site is only using http and not https.
If you're worried about somebody dropping malware onto the server, or trashing everything, then a bug in the forum software is the most likely way anybody would get in
