Go to your local library and check out a book on "Knots".
That is a pretty good beginning.
Another is just watch a couple of bondage videos.
As long as you can tie a good square knot and the guest can't get to the knot to untie it, it should work fine.

Indeed, I try to practice often and I've gotten pretty good over the years.

Don't really have anyone that would actually let me practice on them. So just internet and books for now.

try selfbondage. You don't need anyone but yourself to practice it. ;)

If I don't get myself stuck in self bondage wouldn't have anyone to get me out,but will try it out.

That is a very valid, and major, concern. Always have a pair of shears/scissors that can cut through the rope - keep them on the floor, not on a dresser etc where you may not be able to reach them. It is better to cut and lose your only rope then your only limb.

Start with just doing body harnesses, or leg ties, you can learn a lot about tying arms/wrists by what you can also do to your legs. A double column tie works very similar regardless of the two things you're tying together.

If possible, and as potentially as embarrassing as it may be, have someone you can call on.

Self bondage is fun, and there's no denying there is a bit of a thrill when you try to get free and it's harder than you planned it to be but safety should be your first and last thought when deciding what to try.
