Your favorite handcuffs for Self-Bondage

Sometimes you just have to do things yourself.

We have several sets of cuffs, my favorite ones are custom-made leather ones that wrap around wrists and ankles and have belts and buckles to close them The belts have holes large enough to accept locks, and there are several D-rings on each cuff that are always quite useful.

I find that cold steel imprisoning my wrists feels totally inescapable. :D
I agree leather cuffs are much more comfortable for long term wear and don't mark the skin as much as steel cuffs, but it is always in the back of my mind that they can be cut off, even when locked. :(
Never confuse your ambition with your abilitues, if you can't free yourself who will?

If you like the security of steel but don't like the marks....... (I think marks are great but if you need to be out in public soon after a session, the marks should not look like you just escaped from prison.)
Consider using a set of Darby handcuffs and leg irons which are not hard to get (but hard to get working right) or Medieval style wide cuffs or the older "Tower" style handcuffs and leg irons.
The Darby types are easy to find but often do not work very well until seriously adjusted and reworked. I have a few sets that are probably made in India or Pakistan and needed a lot of work. The sets from South Africa are much better made and work better but are not easy to find. I bought my sets at least 20 years ago.

For leather cuffs, we have a set by Humane Restraints which is very well made but also expensive. It is for mental asylum role play. They are secure, comfortable and quiet when rattling chains in the background is not appropriate.
We also have a couple other sets of lockable leather cuffs but don't use them much.
One set was actually bought at a charity event. I wonder who donated them? I bought the entire set for $1. The seller obviously had no idea what they were and I did not think it was a good idea to explain them to her.
So far, they have been used exactly once by us (They look pretty close to new) and I can tell you they are quite secure when a couple padlocks are added. If done right they are as escape proof as anything else made of leather.

Cuffstore.com has a selection of different types. They are on youtube with a cute model trying them all on and (more importantly for self bondage) taking them off.

Something I took on Christmas Day.
These are quite secure though not the most comfortable for the captive.

ASP cuffs have keyholes on both sides. I prefer them for safety in SB in case I accidentally lock them on with the keyhole facing away from my hands (I have done that twice with single keyhole cuffs now)

Plus you can double lock them using the key hole.

They come in rigid, hinged, and chained.

ASP handcuffs don't double lock through the keyhole.
There is a slot that the back of the key goes into in a manner very similar to S&W Model 100.

The Tower handcuffs in my photo do double lock through the keyhole.
Very early Peerless 1912 handcuffs also double lock via the keyhole while later ones use the plunger that is pretty much standard today.

I have four pairs of ASP cuffs. They all can be double locked using the key. Simply turn the key in the opposite direction of the unlock position, and they double lock.

They can can also be double locked using the slot on either side of the cuff by inserting the back of the key or another object in and moving the mechanism to the side.

With keyholes on both sides, the ease of double locking, availability in chained, hinged and rigid, ASP cuffs are great for self bondage in my opinion.

Thank you for the correction,
I have had a couple ASP handcuffs for years and have never tried to double lock them through the keyhole.
I will have to try that out this evening if I can find either pair.
I think they are fairly well made, but prefer something physically heavier and need more deliberate effort to tighten.

I still can't decide which kinds I like the best.

I found one pair of ASP handcuffs and the key does NOT double lock them when turned in the other direction.
I have a second pair of ASP handcuffs and will try the same thing when I find them. The two pairs of ASP handcuffs are exactly the same. The double lock slot is red on one set and yellow on the other. I wonder if that makes a difference?

I've added a piece of tape that I can feel to each pair of handcuffs and shackles that I own that shows me which side the keyhole is on. Too many times I have had the difficulty after a long period of being secured of just not being able to find that hole or get the key in it.
