If you go back to the 1960's, men's shorts were short. I loved them. Now shorts are knee klength. Perhaps you can find a shop that does retro cothing or get a dressmaker to make siome cotton ones. My normal street wear during the warmer weather (March to early November) is open sandals, polo shirts...

I prefer the high security of steel. I have slept in oval ankle cuffs without any serious discomfrt.

You missed the final option to your bondage, if the chain of one of the pairs of hand cuffs is passed through the crotch of the speedos your arms will be pinned to your butt and if you bend forward you will give your self a wedgie.
