There are so many picture hosting platforms now that I'd rather not host images. 10+ years ago those services didn't really exist so I allowed attachments.

I think I'll reduce the allowed file upload size to something unuseable and hopefully that will keep the existing images working fine.
Is there a reason for not allowing new image attachments? As Ruru67 pointed out, image hosting sites tend to be unstable. I for one never use them because they require organization and maintenance. That is why I only post images inline with the threads. Once done, there is no additional tracking needed.
I can't imagine that it is a big space problem because from what I can observe, there really isn't a great deal of traffic here. If you are pressed for space, there are numerous worthless threads with zero replies or that have been overtaken by events. Meeting announcements from years ago are not particularly useful.

Yes, liability. Even if illegal images are disabled by moderators they still exist. As I said, there are many options now so I'll let them take the risk.

I've used Imgur for over 10 years back when it was in beta. It hosts hundreds of images for me and it's never been a problem. I've used others as well without any real issues. 10 years ago I would have agreed with you but there are far too many good hosts out there now. There are even ones dedicated to adult material (redgifs.com).
so you can use them inline
You can use inline images with any image host that provides a URL. Imgur even builds the link for you. Hell, it will even size it to whatever you want as well. For example, see below -

Most choices have some kind of consequence. I guess we will see what these consequences will be.
