I have often thought of making a pillory and stocks. Once in, trapped until the release mechanism works.
Illustrated bolts. The release would be via eye screws by threads to a heavy weight standing on ice in a blot. As the ice melts, the catch will be pulled back. You would need to hold the thread until you ate in place then let go. The spring will close on you. How would you do it?

Re: STOCKS AND PILLORIES,
We have them in our play room but they aren't setup for SB. Not sure exactly how to set it up like that as those spring locks seem a bit fiddly and can imagine them jamming up when trying to use them via ropes.
If it were me I would use a design similar to this and a traditional key release system

Re: STOCKS AND PILLORIES,
If I were doing this for self bondage, I would just use a regular lock hasp that is within reach of the captive's hands.
The captive gets to put a padlock through the hasp when things are comfortable. The security mechanism would be the key on a string frozen into an ice cube. When the ice melts, the key falls to within reach. Suggest you keep the key on a string even when the ice melts. A key may take an unpredictable bounce if not controlled.

Re: STOCKS AND PILLORIES,
yes to the reply by Stahlketten. Keep it simple, reliable (ice will always melt eventually), and inexpensive.
On a related note, I find the standard pillory much to uncomfortable to be used for more than a few minutes. The problem may be unique to me, but with my wrists at the same elevation as my neck my shoulders statrt to ache quickly. And, I like to be comfortable while being tortured. That might seem absurd, but the stimulation and dominance that comes with a whipping is what I would be after. Not joint and muscle pain. I feel the same about all kinds of bondage. I want the restraint without the rope burn.
My ideal pillory would somehow have the wrist holes several inches lower than the neck hole. I don't have one of these, but it is what I would like. I have had the experience of being in a standard pillory at a Renaissance Faire. I would not have lasted long.

Re: STOCKS AND PILLORIES,
Making such toys is actually fairly simple. Just make sure you get the dimensions right because putting the sawdust back onto the piece of lumber is kind of difficult. Having a properly sized set of handcuffs simplifies things a bit but cut the holes too small to begin with and bring them to size with a sanding drum on a power drill. I also use a mini sanding drum on a Dremel tool to round off the edges. There should be nothing that scrapes.
Building a set in which the wrists and neck are not in line isn't all that difficult but of course needs a bit more planning.

Re: STOCKS AND PILLORIES,
Not so much a Pillory as a Pillory yoke. Just got this from https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1809399 ... 1809399162 , can be used solo but by putting padlocks through the pre drilled holes can be escape proofed.
